Truck Driver Salary to low?

Im getting tired of hearing drivers at the truck stops complaining that they’re not earning enough truck driver salary!  I ask them what type of freight do you haul? They tell me i haul general freight in a dry van trailer for a big company. Wow no wonder that is the lowest truck driver salary in the industry. So stop complaining, and do something about it.

There are several things you can do to raise your truck driver salary. Number one keep your driving record clean. The best paying companies want a clean record. Number two get specialized to haul a diffrent type of freight then general. Even as a Flatbed truck driver you can increase your salary over a dry van. Let me explain a dry van it’s the most common tractor trailer on the road. So right away that tells you it’s the lowest paying Truck Driver Salary!

Now you can haul a dry van and earn good money but it needs to be with the right company. The big companies are called common carriers (Common) so that means the  lowest paying Truck Driving Salary period. Switch companies to someone who pays better per mile. More pay per mile equals more money in your pocket each week. Also make sure with the new company you will get plenty of miles. How you may ask well talk to the drivers, or ask me i know every company out there.

What I do is work for a Private Fleet a major retail store throughout the USA, and it’s not wal-Mart. These are some of the most coveted company truck driving jobs in the industry. Because they pay the most, and the work is easy. But if your a new truck driver you can’t get these jobs, most require 3 years experience. I haul a refrigerated trailer, and when i first started i had to drive and unload at the store. But that was ok because the truck driver salary is very high with my company.

You see friends trucking is like any other industry the harder you work the more you earn. So just driving a dry van, and doing nothing more will earn you a very low salary! Sure there are exceptions but not many just ask all the truck drivers complaining about their pay, and i guarantee most of them are dry van haulers. Flatbeds, Car hauler, bull hauler, side curtain, tanker, local grocery store delivery all of these offer better pay then the average dry van hauler.

Then there is team Truck Driving

If you’re going to work for a big company this is the way to make a great truck driver salary. Teams drive more miles thus earning more money. A good company team can earn up to $120,000 a year to spit between the 2 truck drivers. If you buy a truck and run a team even more money. Team truck driving is not for everybody but it’s a good option to earn more money.

Owner Operator

Another great way to earn more money. But don’t I repeat DONT lease a truck from a company. If you do this you will get screwed every time!!  Cash Flow the Truck save the money, and buy a good used truck. Do all your research first talk to the owners, and read my articles on this. You can find them in the links below this post. Owner operators can earn from $100,000 to $300,000 a year depending on what freight they haul, and who they haul for. That is a great truck driver salary, and the best way to get rich driving a truck. But i repeat because this is VERY IMPORTANT NO LEASE! Cash flow only, and research.  www.ooida.com offers lot’s of valuable information on being an owner operator. I strongly suggest you sign up at their website before buying a truck.

I have already written so many articles on how to earn a great truck driver salary. You can find them in the links below. Check them out ask me question i’m here to help.

Apocalypse “How To Drive A Truck”

Apocalypse and you need to learn quickly how to drive a truck?

Here i will teach you just the basics to get the truck rolling.  The first thing find a truck then open the door, never mind if the tires are flat it’s an Apocalypse. Now after you’re in the truck adjust the seat after all even in an apocalypse you should ride in comfort.   Then adjust the mirrors so you can see the horror behind you.  Now an 18 wheeler has air brakes that lock into place for parking there is two of them.  A red one and a yellow one both must be pressed in for the truck to roll forward or backwards depending on which way the horror is coming from!!   See the video here for details on this. Then after you clean out your underwear, and are ready to get the truck moving you will have to put it in gear (See Video). 18 Whellers in general, most have 10 gears 5 low and 5 more high. The first five are just like a standard car 1 through 5. But if that is not fast enough to escape the horror chasing your ass then you will need the next five gears.   On the gear shifter is a switch sometimes a button. That is your gear selector switch,  press that or push it up to reach the next level of gears (6 through 10)  Some trucks have more gears, and more selector switches but you get the point.

Shifting gears

Is diffrent in an 18 wheeler or however many tires you have left after the horror.  It’s very easy there is two ways of shifting gears in a big truck. The first way is how they teach you in trucker school Double Clutching. This is the best way if you’re new to being a trucker.  To double clutch just wait until the RPM is high enough around 13 for lower gears 18 for higher gears (each tractor is diffrent)  just hear the engine wine that will tell you it’s time to shift.  Now press the clutch in it’s the pedal on your far left then shift out into neutral, wait for the RPM to drop about three 13 to 10 then clutch in again, and into gear. That simple even a trained monkey can do it,  and most of us are not much smarter than a trained monkey. The second and way more advanced way of shifting is floating the gears. This is magic, luck, and timing.  Just rev up the rpm and then take it out of gear wait for the RPM drop then with magic just put it back in the proper gear.  Dont forget to say abracadabra when doing this or it won’t work!!  Now your rolling down the road, and probably shitting yourself if this is your first time driving a truck.

Trailer or Bobtail

If the truck has a trailer you will have to make sure the airlines are connected so the truck will roll.  Check right behind the cab between the truck and trailer (See Video) There you will find two airlines a red one and a blue one. The red one is your emergency airline the blue one is your service airline.  Make sure they are both connected,  and the green one is your pigtail for your lights.  If all 3 are connected then check under the trailer to make sure the 5th wheel is locked in place. Then check your landing gear is up. Now you’re all ready to roll down the road. This is just the quick basics to get the truck moving in case of emergency. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask im always available to help.  (There are no stupid questions only stupid trained monkeys).  Also you can find me on Facebook, and twitter. Now lets hope the apocalypse does not happen but if it does you can drive a truck down the road until the horror catches up, and gets you because you jumped in a swift truck that is governed at 63 mph when i got the ungoverned peterbuilt and beat you to safety.

Trucking Dispatchers

“How to deal with dispatchers to get better loads”

Knowing a little about
“dispatchers” is crucial to getting better loads!  First you
should know they earn on average $31,000 a year.  They hold the “key”
to you earning big bucks and your future. They are the biggest factor
for you to earn big money.  They are even more important then your
type of truck or freight you haul.”  Most of them don’t really
care about you earning more money.  Throughout your career you will
have to deal with them.

So how can you get them to work better for
you?   Well it’s simple get to know them on a personnel level.
“Make a 2 minute call each day to them”, just checking in today,
ask hows the family are things going good in the office.  Little
things like that will get you on his or her good side and get “your
name” known to them.   Many dispatchers have 30 or more drivers on
there board so you need to distinguish your self from the pack,  and
1 phone call every day can do that.  Those truck drivers who are not
getting the miles and home time they want,  will tell you there
dispatcher is an *******.   that’s  not always the case maybe there
just not working with the dispatcher in a polite way that creates a
better working environment for both of you.

You will deal with your
dispatcher every day he knows you better then anyone in the company.
He or she knows how good of a truck driver you are.  How many miles
you can run if you cheat your log books,   how much home time you
like, and most importantly how reliable and flexible you are.
Become a valuable asset to them when it comes to taking loads nobody
wants or can do.  “If you have a can do attitude that goes a long
way with dispatchers.”  It’s not always up to them what loads they
have to give you and if you refuse one of these bad loads they wont
forget!  Load planners have most of the control over you and not the
dispatchers.  But if you have a good dispatcher,  and you both get
along he will beg and plead with the load planner on your behalf.
Load planners don’t care because its not there problem they just
need to get the freight moved.  So sometimes your dispatcher has no
say in your loads remember that when you feel like yelling and
screaming at them.  Work well with your dispatcher and they will work
harder for you and your future earnings.
