Interview with a Truck Driver Mike Tayon

What is your name, and can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Mike Tayon, lover of computers & electronics, gourmet food, and life in general.

What made you decide to become a truck driver?
Initially, crap jobs in Arizona for an ex-Navy guy that was a Seaman, you know, knott tieing, cargo handling, painting, etc., not much for a Seaman in the inland empires. πŸ˜‰

How did you get you’re start in truck driving?
Decided to go with SWIFT Trucking School in Phoenix AZ in 1993. It was a very good choice!

How long have you been a truck driver?
20 years and counting!

What do you like or dislike about being a truck driver?
I like the freedom, both in travel, and being in control of the work day!
The only thing I don’t like about trucking is the GOV laws that seem to come from white shirts that never drove a truck in their lives!

Did you encounter anything unexpected after you became a truck driver?
LOL Yeah, that I was going to be good at it! Seriously though, the WORST discovery a new truck driver can make is a grocery load delivery! You drive 8-11 hours to get the load there, and suddenly discover YOU have to unload it, break it all down, and work their dock to do it! NIGHTMARE to say the least, until you get it all figured out, and learn about lumpers πŸ˜‰

Who do you drive a truck for?
I drive for a privately owned LTL company, ’nuff said πŸ˜‰

Are you happy working for them?
VERY happy!

Do you have any regrets?
Nope! πŸ™‚

Is there anything else you want to tell us about truck driving?
It isn’t just a job, it’s an adventure! Oh, and a lifestyle too πŸ˜‰
