LTL position right out of truck driving school.

Today we have a question from Mike.  Here is what he had to say.

Good morning,

By way of introduction i would like to thank you for your wonderful and informative page. My name is Mike Floretine and I am married to a US citizen and about to relocate to the United States.

I am thinking about becoming a truck driver and would just like to ask for a little bit of advice:

1) Do you think that it would be possible to get a LTL position where you are home every night after graduating from a truck driving school?

2) My wife is is from Indiana, but really we could go anywhere as long as I get into a good company.

I am currently 32 years old and really excited about making this a career. I honestly can’t tell you how much I would appreciate any guidance.

Thank you so much for you time and I am really looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regard

Mike Florentine

Hello Mike lets see if we can help you today,

I am from Indiana, and I moved to Arizona to get a good LTL job. Don’t go to Indiana if you want a good paying CDL job. The west coast is better for getting these jobs. Right out of school yes, but not the better paying ones until you get at least one full year truck driving. With you still young I would suggest you start out with UPS working on the docks right after school. Then you can work you’re way up from the docks into a truck. UPS drivers earn top pay in this industry and they are union. Hope this helps you Mike

Lance,

Wow! Thank you so much for your swift response. I am really going to take the information to heart and start looking into it right away.

Very interesting that you are from Indiana originally. Do you think it would be fairly easy to find a dock position somewhere in the United States after obtaining my CDL?

I a also wondering if you ever consider being a heavy equipment operator? To me it just seems like it might be challenge to find a stable job in that industry.

I really appreciate your time and guidance.

Kind regards,

Mike it would not be to hard to find a job working on the dock’s if you already have a CDL license. Heave Equipment operators can make good money here, and not to hard to find a job in that industry as well.
