Trucking Industry News — Trucking Companies Sweeten Truck Driver Benefits

Benefits, incentives, awards and recognitions, and vacation plans. If you are planning to apply for a truck driving position, then what are the specific things you want from a trucking company?

Upgrading incentives and benefit plans are now completion requirements in the United States, Canada and other countries. This proves the real difficulty of trucking companies not only in recruiting new and young truck drivers, but also in retaining their own duty truck driver associates who might be tempted to change career. Trucking companies are now serious in implementing bonuses and incentives plans to keep their drivers hitting the road and on the go for on-time deliveries. Seemingly, the now dreaded shortage of truck drivers had driven trucking companies to do so.

A lot of trucking companies are boldly displaying their sweetened offer over the Internet, especially in on-line job sites. Texas Trucking Industry, for example, conducted a survey on what else attracts drivers. On their 2013 Texas Industry Study, they revealed that drivers are looking for more pay aside from their regular compensation. Today, the company is offering bonus pay for accident-free driving, sales commissions, signing bonuses, health care insurance, retirement plan, driver recognition awards, longevity bonus, and fuel surcharge pay.

On the other hand, Swift Transportation is focusing more on investing to retain their truck drivers. They had been offering a monthly sign-on bonus for their truck drivers who chose to stay rather than transferring to another company or changing career. Swift president and COO, Richard Stocking said, “As you can see from this new plan, we are serious about retaining and rewarding the best drives in America.” The extent of wards and bonuses, however, depends on the driver’s on-time service, safety, and mileage.

As posted on many trucker job websites, Stallion Transportation Group is in need of a driver at least 25 years, with a safe and legal driving record, and a has a valid Class A CDL. Applicants who qualified in the position are granted the following:

  • Full Benefits Package (Medical, Dental, Vision & Life)
  • $2,000 Sign On Bonus,
  • $1,000 Driver Referral Bonus and a Quarterly Safety Bonus
  • Consistent Freight, Excellent Miles, Quality Hometime and No Touch Freight
  • 2013 Kenworth Tractors (with 84 inch Studio Sleepers)
  • 401K
  • Driver of the Quarter and Driver of the Year awards

A family operated trucking company in Western Kentucky also offers top pay, health insurance benefits, 401(K), bonuses and above all vacations. These are granted to drivers who have at least two years driving experience, possess professional appearance and work attitude, are detail conscious, and a self-starter mindset.
